Part 1. The Magical Power of Sighing
Hello my quiet powerhouse,
Sometimes, when we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated, our bodies instinctively know what to do: we sigh. But instead of brushing it off as just an exasperated reaction, what if we used sighing as a tool to release tension and free our voices?
Why Sighing is More Powerful Than You Think
A sigh is more than just a breath—it’s a reset for your nervous system. Research shows that sighing can:
Release built-up tension in the body
Regulate emotions and reduce anxiety
Increase oxygen flow, improving clarity and focus
Reset your breath pattern, especially when stressed
Relax the vocal cords, making your voice sound fuller and calmer
It’s like a mini nervous system reboot—all in one deep, intentional exhale.
Part 2 The Practice
The Voiced Sigh Exercise
Let’s practice together:
Take a deep inhale through your nose.
Open your mouth and sigh out on a long, voiced “ahhhh”—like you’re yawning and sound is naturally spilling out.
Let your shoulders drop as you exhale.
Repeat 3-4 times.
Notice the shift in your body.
Feel the space in your throat opening.
Let the vibrations settle into your chest.
When to Use This Tool
Set yourself a goal: sigh intentionally when you feel…
Angry
Stuck
Nervous before speaking
About to have a difficult conversation
Each sigh clears a little space for your voice. The more space you create, the more naturally and confidently you’ll speak
Now I want you to take a moment and get real: What is a statement that you have not allowed yourself to say out loud? Think of it. Got it?
Let’s do this together:
Open your mouth and sigh out on a long, voiced “ahhhh”—like you’re yawning and sound is naturally spilling out.
Let your shoulders drop as you exhale.
Take another breath and say your secret statement: I hate being a mom or I don’t like sharing an office with _________ or I am smarter than my boss. (you fill in the blank here)
What does it feel like to say it out loud AFTER sighing?
